Mercredi 26 juillet, dernier jour de la conférence scientifique internationale sur le VIH/sida IAS 2017, la mobilisation contre les abus de Gilead, l'industriel du médicament, s'est fait entendre.

Les activistes se sont étendus-es par terre lors d'un "die in" pour dénoncer les prix excessifs du traitement contre l'hépatite C partout dans le monde, qui excluent et tuent celles et ceux qui ne peuvent y accéder, notamment les usagers-ères de drogue.

Dans le même temps, AIDES, Coalition Plus et ITPC adressent une lettre au PDG de Gilead pour dénoncer les prix de ces traitements et exiger des réductions. Le courrier dénonce également les prolongements de brevet injustifiés dans certains pays européens pour le Truvada, l'un des médicaments les plus utilisés pour traiter les personnes vivant avec le VIH mais également en préventif (PrEP). Les associations demandent l'engagement de Gilead à ne pas mener de procédures contre l'arrivée des génériques, pour l'utilisation en curatif comme en préventif.

Depuis de nombreuses organisations à travers le monde se sont ralliés à ce courrier : AAE, Aids Healthcare Foundation, Aids Hilfe Wien, Africagay, AFEW International, ARAS (Roumanie), Communities Delegation on the Unitaid Board, Civil Society for there Eradication of Tuberculosis in Nigeria, Groupe Sida Genève, HIV Ireland, ICRSE (International Committee on the Rights of sex workers in Europe), India HIV/Aids Alliance, Médecins du Monde, Plan Health Advocacy and development foundation (Nigeria), SAIL (Stop Aids in Liberia), Society for the Elimination of HIV among Children (Nigeria), Treatment Action Campaign (Afrique du Sud), STOPAIDS (Grande-Bretagne), Swiss Aids Federation, Treatment access mobilizers initiative (TAM-Nigeria), UAEM UK.

Point final de cette mobilisation pendant la conférence IAS, Othoman Mellouk de ITPC a également pris la parole pour dénoncer les pratiques du laboratoire lors de la cérémonie de clôture.

Gilead n'a apporté aucune réponse à ce jour.

Paris, Wednesday, 26th July. On this, the last day of IAS 2017, the International Scientific HIV/AIDS conference, activists mobilized and called out the abusive stance of Gilead, the pharmaceutics manufacturer.

The activists lay down in a symbolic ‘die-in’ to expose excessive global prices for hepatitis C drugs that are excluding and killing people who are unable to access them, particularly drug users.

At the same AIDES, Coalition Plus and ITPC sent a letter to Gilead’s CEO criticizing the price of these medicines and demanding their reduction. The letter also called out the unjustified patent prolongation in some European countries of Truvada, one of the most widely used drugs to treat and prevent HIV. The associations are calling on Gilead to pledge not to engage in legal proceedings to prevent the arrival of generics for treatment and prevention.
